As with other demonstrations, states will volunteer to participate, applying in the Spring of 2024.<\/li>\n<li>New public opinion <a href=\"https:\/\/unitedstatesofcare.org\/the-latest\/value-based-care-patient-first-care\/\">findings<\/a> from United States of Care show that people want to receive high-quality, affordable health care and prefer payment models that prioritize quality of care over quantity of services. \u201cThe issue is, no one knows what value-based care is, and it remains misunderstood and unrecognized by the public.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In Vermont, a program to scale an accountable care organization (ACO) model across all major payers in the state successfully reduced Medicare spending, lowered hospitalizations, and improved patient care.\u00a0It is highlighted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajmc.com\/view\/vermont-all-payer-aco-successfully-drove-down-costs-acute-care-over-4-years\">in this<\/a> <em>AJMC <\/em>article.<\/li>\n<li>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/medicare-shared-savings-program-saves-medicare-more-18-billion-2022-and-continues-deliver-high?utm_source=LINKEDIN&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=20230824_11148040237&amp;utm_campaign=Medicare&amp;linkId=231429240\">press release<\/a>, CMS announced that the Medicare Shared Savings Program saved money for Medicare while continuing to support high-quality care. The study received media coverage, such <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/09\/18\/1200076902\/people-who-adopt-healthy-habits-can-reduce-risk-of-depressive-episodes-studies-s\">as this<\/a> NPR podcast from Allison Aubrey.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdedge.com\/psychiatry\/article\/264508\/depression\/prescribing-lifestyle-changes-when-medicine-isnt-enough?ecd=pushlypd_web_050823_mdedge_8am&amp;utm_medium=notification&amp;utm_source=pushly&amp;utm_campaign=main\">This article<\/a> in <em>MDdge Psychiatry<\/em> says that clinicians suggesting lifestyle behavior change make a strong statement to the patient that treating psychiatric disorders can be about more than passively swallowing a pill.<\/li>\n<li>A study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-023-40194-6\">published<\/a> in\u00a0<em>Scientific Reports<\/em>, based on longitudinal data from tens of thousands of South Korean adults, has found that increased consumption of sugary carbonated beverages is linked to a higher likelihood of depressive symptoms, irrespective of weight or blood sugar factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>DYSLIPIDEMIA<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Statins vs. fibrates for dyslipidemia are compared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medscape.com\/viewarticle\/995550?src=#vp_2\">in this<\/a> <em>Medscape <\/em>article.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>TYPE 2 DIABETES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1871402123001224\">This systematic review <\/a>published in <em>Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews <\/em>showed several herbs could be considered as a valuable adjuvant therapy regarding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/glycemic-control\">glycemic control<\/a>\u00a0of type 2 diabetes patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>CANCER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A cohort study <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2808381\">just published<\/a> in <em>JAMA Network Open<\/em> shows the incidence rates of cancer among people younger than 50 in the U.S. increased from 2010 to 2019.
